The second Translational Medicine Centre will open in Székesfehérvár

In the Székesfehérvár hospital they are going to establish a centre that ensures the 21st century opportunities of patient treatment, its focus is on gastroenterology. Apropos of this, the Fejér County Szent György University Teaching Hospital and the University of Pécs have signed a cooperation agreement.

The model of the Székesfehérvár Translational Medicine Centre was established in 2016 at the University of Pécs. Its significance is perceptible for specialists and patients as well since the 21st century’s modern medicine’s research results will benefit the patients in similar centres as soon as possible. In the past 2 years there have been huge results in the field of gastroenterology at the University of Pécs; therefore the cooperation begins first in this field in the Fejér county hospital.

The details of the agreement were presented by Dr. István Csernavölgyi, director-general of the hospital, Dr. Attila Miseta, dean of the UP Medical School, Dr. Péter Hegyi, head of the University of Pécs Translational Medicine Centre, and Dr. Ferenc Izbéki, head of the Székesfehérvár gastroenterology.

Dr. István Csernavölgyi, director-general of the hospital sees the centre as an important vision that will play a role in the long-term commitment of the hospital employees.

According to Dr. Attila Miseta, dean of the Medical School this opportunity strengthens the university training’s research field in a way that they can involve more patients in the work.

Dr. Péter Hegyi, head of the University of Pécs Translational Medicine Centre said that translational medicine is the 21st century’s modern medicine, which was established to turn the results of the research for the benefit of the patients as soon as possible. He added that the centre generated profits in all fields during two years at the University of Pécs: in the acute pancreatic disease group they could reduce mortality to one third, the consumption of antibiotics to half, and the number of severe inflammation to two third. Besides these, the cost of patient care decreased by 25 percent and the initiative attracted more than ten young doctors.

The Fejér county hospital was chosen because there internal medicine and gastroenterology have developed to a level that enables them to take part in the process as an equal partner, and thus become Central and Eastern Europe’s second centre.
