The reconstruction of the 400-Bed
clinic of Pécs reaches a milestone

13 January 2015

The „A” and „C” wings, as well as the Accident & Emergency Unit of the 400-Bed Clinical Centre of the University of Pécs were ceremonially handed over. The clinical complex was handed over by Gábor Zombor, Secretary of State for Health, Zsolt Páva, Major of Pécs and József Bódis, Rector of the University of Pécs.

The projects subsidized from European Union funds affects an area of 27 000 mand is realised from 15 billion HUF. The building units handed over on 13 January host the departments of haematology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology, angiology and accident and emergency units. All the wards of the reconstructed clinical complex have become one or two-bed, high comfort rooms with a shower. During the reconstruction of the building a special attention was paid to functionality. The building is tailored to the needs of the Accident &Emergency Unit, providing immediate access to the diagnostic facilities. Cases of internal medicine and general emergency are handled here, including neurological, ENT, urological and dermatological examinations, however paediatric, psychiatric and obstetric cases are not dealt with here. On the basis of preliminary estimates, 90-100 000 cases will be handled here at the new „emergency”, coming mainly from Pécs and its agglomerations.

The design and technical realisation were created by striving for the highest quality. Extremely durable, aluminium doors and windows were installed, moreover tiling with conductive zones assists the visually impaired with orientation. In the operating rooms and intensive care departments a sterile air-conditioning ventilation system was installed, as well as a world-class emergency response system, which includes among others a high-pressure water mist fire protection system. The design of the 1st Department of Internal Medicine Haematology Unit Bone Marrow Transplantation Section meeting high hygiene requirements is also nationally unique and allows for the hermetic isolation of patients. With glass surface visitor corridor and telephone communication it provides an opportunity for maintaining the relationship of the patient with relatives and the outside world. The specific hygiene requirements of the same specific department are fulfilled by the sterile water and mechanical ventilation system detached from the general system of the building providing a boiled and chilled sterile water service.

The reconstruction projects are expected to end by autumn this year, thanks to which patients arriving to the „400-Bed Clinic” can be treated in a both structurally and functionally, excessively modern complex.
