Successful implantation of an inner ear implant at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology

2 September 2019

For the first time in Hungary, the implantation of the AB HiRes™ Ultra 3D inner ear implant was performed at the University of Pécs Department of Otorhinolaryngology. The sensation of the surgery performed by Professor Imre Gerlinger in August was that this implant received the prestigious Medtech Breakthrough Award for best medical device this year.

Advanced Bionics (AB), California, founded in 1993 is one of the leading manufacturers of cochlear implants in the world. This medical technology device is suitable for restoring the hearing of deaf or severely hearing-impaired people. The implant is surgically inserted into the bed created on the skull and the electrode is inserted into the inner ear, the cochlea. The electrical signal coming from the sound processor is then transmitted to the non-naturally irritable auditory nerve.

Choosing the right implant is a life-long decision. AB helps people in need with the industry's most advanced technology. It provides a five times higher resolution than any other system, thus delivering the best performance. It is reliable and durable, the ClearVoiceTM's signal processing system is clinically proven to improve speech intelligibility in background noise. Among its many other benefits, it is worth highlighting the wireless connection opportunity to various Blutooth devices. With AB cochlear implants, the patient not only gets excellent implant technology, but can also take advantage of the complete enhancement of the external unit without the need for further surgery.

The device implanted now is unique in allowing its users to perform up to 3 Tesla magnetic resonance test without surgery and without any restrictions. The procedure performed by Dr. Imre Gerlinger improves the patient's quality of life through high-tech innovation.
